Rediscovering Jesus as the risen Lord and the Christ
This account is taken from the gospel of Luke 24:13 - 36 and covers miraculous events after the resurrection of Jesus
And two disciples,
went that day to a village,
that's called Emmaus.
Which is not too far,
from Jerusalem, to go,
about seven miles.
And they walked and talked,
and deep in conversation,
of what had happened.
And it came to pass,
that whilst they talked together,
in deep discussions.
That Jesus himself,
was on the road and drew near,
and he went with them.
They're eyes were covered,
so that they could see him there,
but not who he was.
And he then asked them,
what are they talking about,
walking so sadly.
And then one of them
whose name was Cleopas said,
and answering him.
Are you a stranger,
in Jerusalem and don't know
what has happened there.
And he said to them
what things?' They said of Jesus,
who's from Nazareth.
Known as a prophet
mighty in word and in works,
before God and men.
And how the chief priests,
and rulers condemned to death,
and crucified him.
We believed he would,
have been the true one to come,
to save Israel,
And besides all this,
today is the third day since,
these things had happened.
Truly some women,
from our grouped shocked us, that went,
early to the tomb.
The tomb was empty,
and they said they'd seen angels,
who said he's alive.
And a few of us,
went to check and found it so,
but didn't see him.
Then he said to them,
you're fools and slow to believe,
what the prophets said.
Should Christ not suffer,
all these things and then arise,
and enter glory.
And he then began,
from Moses and the prophets,
to explain to them.
The things in scripture
speak the things concerning him,
and making it plain.
And as they got close,
to Emmaus he told them,
he would travel on.
But they constrained him,
and said, "Come stay with us,
it's nearly evening."
It was getting dark,
and so he agreed to stay,
and spend time with them.
As they were eating,
he took bread and he broke it,
and gave it to them.
And their eyes opened,
and they knew him; he vanished,
from out of their sight.
They were left to talk,
did not our hearts burn in us,
while he was talking.
When he spoke those words,
opening up to us those things,
written in scripture.
At that time, they left,
to return to Jerusalem,
and found the others.
They said what happened,
and how that he became known
in breaking of bread.
And as they still spoke,
Jesus was right there and said,
peace be to you all.
